Song: Primitive
Artist: Roisin Murphy
Album: Overpowered
I’m posting this today because: I heard this song a few days ago that reminded me of it, “Dont Worry We’ll Still Be Watching You by Gotye” discovered the song off this sex music blog on tumblr, has some pretty good stuff really liked that song. Anyways, the low vocals in the background reminded me of this song, and I’ve had it stuck in my head all morning till now that I could finally listen to it.
What it means to me: Fucking awesome sex.
What I like about it: The background vocals, the feel to it. It’s just a really really interesting song. The lyrics are rather kinky as well haha.
Genre: Sex music. Yup.
Song: One Eye Open
Artist: Florence + The Machine
Album: Lungs
I’m posting this today because: I fucking love Florence + The Machine. I was listening to them quite a bit yesterday with my girlfriend (I introduced them to her, and ever since she’s fallen in love with the band haha) and ever since I’ve been in a Florence mood. Uhh, this song is kind of angry too, and I’m rather pissed the fuck off at my phone for deciding to go to shit last night. I wish I could cut it’s little heart out. Damned technology being inanimate and such.
What it means to me: Again just an angry sort of song, but there’s something oddly sexual about it (I slipped my hand under her skirt, I said don’t worry it’s not going to hurt oh my reputation is kinda clouded with dirt that’s why you sleep with one eye open). But nonetheless it is entirely bad ass. For some reason when I listen to this, my mind creates this Hitchcock-esque movie scenario.
What I like about it: The power in the way that it is sung, especially in the last 30 seconds. That’s what I love about all Florence songs off of the Lungs album, they all have such great endings, and great chorus’. Again, love the Hitchcock-y creepy feel to this song, the quirky wierd instrumentals really do a good job of bringing that out. (And by the way yes I know I spell weird wierd, but I refuse to change my ways.) Anyways, this is one of my favorite songs by Florence just because you can really hardcore jam to it whereas her other songs you can jam to in a different sense. This ones just gritty. Oh and by the way folks, Florence Welch is such an adorable person to watch in interviews.
Genre: Baroque Rock, soul, indie rock, indie pop (contradiction but true in this case), art rock, experimental, Brit Pop.
Song: The Hunger
Artist: The Distillers
Album: Coral Fang
I’m posting this today because: I’ve been feeling like listening to some good ol punk music. Really like The Distillers, a really great LA punk band and personally, right up there with Joan Jett for me, if not I like Brody’s vocals better. Love the raspyness.
What it means to me: Well the song is obviously a break up song of sorts, but I don’t put any break uppy affiliations to it. This is one of the softer Distillers songs, and I just really really enjoy it.
What I like about it: The vocals obviously. The Distillers generally have heavier screamish music, and I’m not into that, this song is the perfect blend of toughness and softness for me. The last minute of this song is amazing, really my favorite part from the bass solo to the build up of yelling and such.
Genre: LA Punk, Rock.
—Portishead - Glory box
(God I hope that creepy alien face on the album picture goes away.)
I’m posting this song today because: Again, just in a trip hop mood. So relaxing. My family is currently blasting Christmas music while putting the tree up. Quite frankly, I’m not the biggest fan of Christmas music, besides the traditional chant music so trip hop is a nice little escape from slightly gaudy holiday music and chaos of putting the tree up haha.
What it mean to me: Sex. Total sex song. That is all really
What I like about it: Oh god the vocals, the lyrics, the orchestra, the drops, the intro, just everything about it. Also one of my favorites. So good. Portishead was really the pioneer of Trip Hop music, along with Massive Attack. Beth Gibbons has such a perfect blues jazz torch singer voice, AND SHE’S NOT EVEN BLACK.
Genre: Trip Hop, Jazzish, Sex
Sorry couldn’t post a song yesterday folks, left sorta early to go hang out at my girlfriends, didn’t come back home till almost 1 in the morning.
(This is gonna be my post for yesterday)
Song: La Femme Parallel
Artist: Thievery Corporation
Album: Radio Retaliation
I’m posting this today because: Just sort of in a trip hoppy mood today. This song is a classic, and my favorite by Thievery Corporation. Best way to enjoy this song is to close your eyes and let the beautiful vocals and sounds carry you.
What it means to me: It means a lot to me actually besides really really good driving music. The lyrics are so beautiful and I can understand them all considering that I speak french fluently because I am French and was raised in a French speaking household with my mother as a child. First name Margaux last name Fougere, hello people that’s a fucking French person. Anyways I just feel the lyrics are very relatable (I’ll post an English translation below)
What I like about it: The vocals definitely, adore them. Despite speaking the French language fluently and growing up with it, I hate it. Maybe it’s because of more personal reasons, but this is one of the very few French songs that I can greatly appreciate and listen to all the time. One of my favorite songs of all time really. It just sounds so much better in French. Love the lyrics as described above. Love the beats. Thievery Corporation is generally a Dub-Reggae band so you can expect the urge to head bob when listening. The subtle saxophone that fades in and out of the background, the atmosphere this song creates. It makes me feel like I’m falling through space, getting lost in the stars.
Genre: Trip Hop
I was so young when we first met,
She took me by the hand.
She led me to
the first floor,
She sent me to the clouds,
She showed me the stars.
In her room it smelled of capricious perfumes
On the walls the pictures were all parallel
Beautiful like her father,
Charlotte was elegant.
Beautiful like her mother,
Charlotte had the audacity
to be herself…without losing faith
to be herself, without losing faith…in herself.
Beautiful like her father,
Charlotte was elegant.
Beautiful like her mother,
Charlotte had the audacity
to be herself…without losing faith
to be herself, without losing faith…in herself.
Always losing herself a bit, in the clouds.
Always losing herself a bit, in the stars.
(I always thought that it was she had the audacity to have faith, without losing faith in herself, which personally I like better) anyways.
—Coldplay - Sparks
I’m posting this today because: My beautiful girlfriend is standing next to me currently, and I couldn’t think of what song to post all day. BUT. This song is totally lovey gooey cheesy, and well, those are sort of the three main components that make up the feelings I have towards her. Lovey. Gooey. and yes. Very cheesy. She means everything to me, and I am THE LUCKIEST LASS in all the land to have her. This ones for you babe. I JUST GOT THE AWESOMEST KISS EVER YEAHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH HQHAHASHAL;
What it means to me: Just makes me think of my girlfriend really. The Parachutes album by Coldplay is kinda like OUR album. It’s just a really cute song and to me symbolizes that I’m always, always, always, gonna be there for her in every single way I possibly can.
What I like about it: The sort of sentimental vibe it has to it, I can’t explain it but when this song plays and my girlfriend and I are in the room together, I just want to grab her by the waist and sway, and hug, and kiss, and be happy well we’re always happy together, but I mean like… I dunno, just super affectionate and corny and bleh. Why am I so flustered typing this. It’s probably because Alyssandra is looking at the screen right now >.>. <— that’s literally her face but in the opposite direction. <.< And now she laughed. well a few second ago. PEOPLE. SHE HAS THE CUTEST LAUGH EVER. Moving on. uhh yeah.. Uh.. I like the lyrics a lot. and uhh… Yuh. :D
Genre: Soft rock, acoustic, I’m kissing my girlfriend right now.
I totally see sparks whenever I’m with her.
Song: Metal Heart
Artist: Garbage
Album: Bleed Like Me.
I’m posting this today because: I just relate to this song a lot. Especially right now due to the personal conversation I had with my girlfriend confiding in her the way I truly feel about my appearance and such, and how I have always felt all my life. You can guess what that is upon listening to this song.
What it means to me: Just very relatable, a song that points out the imperfections that I feel I have, as well as the imperfections within society. Wanting to be something better than I am.
Why I like it: Love the lyrics a lot, really like the thrashy style to the song and how it’s sung in this very dark sorta way. Garbage is my favorite band of all time, and this is an amazing, personal song done by them.
Genre: Alternative rock, Grunge.I want to be dependable , I want to be courageous and goodI want to be faithful so that I can be heroic and trueI want to be a friend you can rely on you can lean on and trustI want to understand so I can forgive and be willing to loveI wish I wasn’t flesh and bloodI would not be scaredof bullets built with me in mindfor then I could be saved

Reason: I wrote the song to tell a girl how I feel about her. I wouldn’t tell her directly because I don’t want to ruin our friendship. The song has great meaning to me because I stopped writing songs for a while, yet here I am with these feelings that need to get out somehow. She means that much to me, I suppose.
I like the song because: I can be open with my thoughts. People tell me they like the guitar playing.
Genre: not sure
Song: Diamond Sea
Artist: The Sonic Youth
Album: Washing Machine
I’m posting this today because: Just felt like it, was listening to Incinerate earlier by em, this songs my absolute fav though. Just felt like sharing to the www.
What it means to me: This song is really relatable. It has a bunch of meanings, but to me it refers to a person whose really hopeful, idealistic, and loses himself in his conceptions of what he thinks he is, and what he imagines the world to be. Someone who is convinced that their realistic, but is the farthest thing from it, and only realizes it when shit starts crashing down and their dreams don’t come true.
Why I like it: love the lyrics, love the guitar, love the way it’s sung. Just a really cool song in general.
Genre: Punk, new wave, rock.
Time takes its crazy toll
And how does your mirror grow
You better watch yourself when you jump into it
Cuz the mirror’s gonna steal your soul
I wonder how it came to be my friend
That someone just like you has come again
You’ll never, never know how close you came
Until you fall in love with the diamond rain
Throw all his trash away
Look out he’s here to stay
Your mirror’s gonna crack when he breaks into it
And you’ll never, never be the same
Look into his eyes and you can see
Why all the little kids are dressed in dreams
I wonder how he’s gonna make it back
When he sees that you just know
It’s make believe
Blood crystalized to sand
And now I hope you understand
You reflect into his looking glass soul
And now the mirror is your only friend
Look into his eyes and you will see
That men are not alone on the diamond sea
Sail into the heart of a lonely storm
And tell her that you’ll love her eternally
Time takes its crazy toll
Mirror fallin’ off the wall
You better look out for the looking glass girl
Cuz she’s gonna take you for a fall
Look into his eyes and you shall see
Why everything is quiet and nothing’s free
I wonder how he’s gonna make her smile
When love is running wild on the diamond sea
—Karen O with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross - Immigrant Song
Too busy to post yesterday, this’ll be my post for yesterday.
I’m posting this song today because: Okay. I am a huge, huge, huge fan of the Millennium trilogy (Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Trilogy), I’ve seen all three of the Swedish films, and they are fucking FANTASTIC. If you have Netflix or something of the sort go watch them NOW you will love yourself just a bit more for it. So I found out shortly after watching the Swedish films that David Fincher is releasing his own American version. At first I was a little skeptical I mean don’t get me wrong I love David Fincher (Fight Club, Zodiac, Social Network, Benjamin Button, Se7en,
etc..) But just the Daniel Craig part and this unknown Rooney Mara girl, I wasn’t so sure about. (Though I think physically Craig is a good pick for the lead male.) After seeing the first trailer put out, I got interested. For gods sake, the music for it is a cover of a classic rock song by a classic rock band (Immigrant Song by Led Zeppelin), sung by Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs; one of my favorite bands, and the soundtrack is by Trent Reznor aka Nine Inch Nails. Awesome. So after I saw the trailer, I was hungry for more of the song since it was only half of it, AND FINALLY the rest of it got released a few days ago (I found 2 nights ago and jumped for joy)
Anyways, to put it brief after a giant paragraph has been typed up. I AM LOOKING SO FUCKING FORWARD TO THIS MOVIE. AND I FUCKING LOVE THIS SONG.
What it means to me: Bad assery.
Why I like it: Love the vocals because I love Karen O. Just a really really really great remake of a classic song. Great mixing, just put together amazingly.
Genre: Rock, cover, soundtrack.
